STRATHAM, NH - Today, House Democrat Leader Steve Shurtleff rescinded his call for accused domestic abuser Senator Woodburn to reign, calling domestic violence a "moot point." In response, the Seacoast Republican Women released the following statement:

Every day, far too many women in New Hampshire fall victim to domestic violence. When our elected officials coerce and intimidate victims in an effort to silence them it is incumbent upon all of us to stand up against those who try such tactics. House Democrat Leader Shurtleff's statements calling domestic violence a "moot point" are completely inappropriate and unacceptable. There is no place in elected leadership for this kind of toxic thinking. We call on all elected officials, and especially women in elected office to join us in calling on Representative Shurtleff, and all those who join him in excusing Senator Woodburn's despicable behavior, to resign. We also call on the state Democrat Party leadership to reject such hypocritical double standards and despicable intimidation tactics."
